Early on Monday morning, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schira surprised quite a few people by announcing to his Twitter followers that Unai Emery, now at Arsenal, was interested in bringing Ever Banega to the Emirates.
The Spanish manager was said to really want the Argentinian midfielder at his new club, and would be talking to his former side, Sevilla, to try and get a deal over the line.
However, Estadio Deportivo on Tuesday afternoon are running a story that the player’s entourage ‘know nothing about Arsenal’ and Banega is currently fully focused on doing his best in Russia with the Argentina national team.
The 29-year-old has a contract with Sevilla until 2020, and, according to the local media outlet, has recently changed agency after an ‘impasse’ period with Marcelo Simonian, who also looks after Javier Pastore.
Estadio Deportivo reckon an intermediary might have offered Banega’s services to Arsenal, with Emery perhaps considering making a move.
Through the official channels, however, nothing appears to have happened.
