Despite some recent claims that Bologna were not going to be getting rid of Sydney van Hooijdonk this January, the stories linking him to Celtic for some work under Brendan Rodgers refuse to go away.
The striker’s father, Pierre, whom the Celtic Park faithful will be very familiar with, recently explained that if another striker were to arrive at the Serie A side, then an exit would be sought.
That’s what’s happening, as the Italians are in the process of securing the services of Santiago Castro from Vélez Sarsfield, and Corriere di Bologna believe a move to Celtic is being worked on for the Dutch forward.
While Pierre van Hooijdonk may not be his son’s agent, it’s said he is ‘clearly very active and influential’ in what goes on in the 23-year-old’s life, and a move to Scotland is something they are looking at.
The newspaper write that ‘offers have arrived’ for the Bologna striker, with clubs in Turkey, Spain and Holland keen to get him, while his entourage ‘hope to take him’ to Celtic.
Whether this is something that does take place before the end of the January transfer window remains to be seen, but Brendan Rodgers and his staff have been looking for some extra help up over the past few weeks, and there’s no denying Sydney van Hooijdonk represents a relatively easy deal to pull off at the last minute.
Not only would he be allowed to leave, but those around him actively want him to end up at Celtic.
