In the past couple of days there’s been a bit of noise surrounding a rumour about Leeds United’s chase for Norwich City’s Nelson Oliveira.

There’s even been the now essential articles covering what Leeds United fans are saying on social media about the potential signing, but all with little basis.

Most of the media has been mentioning The Yorkshire Post as the main source, but the local outlet only said the striker “could be a viable alternative” to replace Chris Wood at the club. They never affirmed there was something going on.

We’ve had a deeper dig, and found out that The Scratching Shed, which is a Leeds United fan website, suggested the signing a few days earlier. That could be where this all started.

Nelson Oliveira’s departure from Norwich City bhad been much expected because of his controversial celebration showing his shirt in front of manager Daniel Farke after scoring a goal earlier this month.

But as covered by us at the time, the striker has already told the Portuguese press there are no issues between him and the manager anymore, and he should remain at the club this season.

That wouldn’t help a Leeds United transfer, but at the time Oliveira was being questioned on Wolves’ interest.

Speaking to Record, Oliveira said: “I know nothing about Wolves’ possible interest. I admire Nuno Espírito Santo as a manager and I even have friends at Wolves. But I’m happy at Norwich, totally adapted and I feel loved at the club.

“My manager is great and likes me, there isn’t any problem between us and we have a team to fight for promotion. What I did in the game against Fulham was a mistake, I’ve already apologised and I’m totally focused on Norwich.”

Of course anything can happen before September 1st, but if this transfer depends on Nelson Oliveira’s fragile relationship with Daniel Farke, it’s already taken a blow.

Leeds United interest would make sense on some levels, with Thomas Christiansen probably needing an experienced forward. There’s a shortage of good options being linked with a move to Elland Road, and whilst the Norwich striker is a reasonable mention, as the Leeds United blog pointed out, that seems to be where it starts and ends for now.
