Barcelona are still interested in Antoine Griezmann, a year after the forward snubbed a chance to join them in order to continue at Atletico Madrid.

Last month, Diego Simeone’s side announced the World Cup winner will leave the club in the summer and Ernesto Valverde’s side are once again being touted as one of the possible destinations for the 28-year-old.

Over the weekend, the France international spoke to Telefoot and said: “I know where I want to go, and the sacrifices I have to make to get there. All I’m asking for from the fans is just a little patience. As soon as I can say it, I’ll do it with pleasure.”

Mundo Deportivo claims the former Real Sociedad star’s latest comments, especially the one where he stresses about ‘sacrifices’ has been ‘interpreted’ at Camp Nou as a clue that he wants to take a pay cut to join the Spanish champions.

In 2018, the forward had a verbal agreement to join the La Liga winners for a deal worth €16m per season.

However, he rejected a chance to move to Camp Nou in 2018 and signed a new deal with Los Rojiblancos that saw his salary rise to €23m per year.

If Griezmann wants to join Barca, he will have to take a pay cut and the Catalan newspaper states the player is willing to lower his wage demands in order to join the club.

The report states the attacker has already taken a decision on where he wants to play next season and has a pact with that club.

Mundo points out that Griezmann’s decision to publicly come out and confirm his decision to leave Atletico is another indication that he has a verbal agreement elsewhere.

The message from Barcelona is clear that they want to sign Griezmann a year after they failed to land him. For now, the club has not signed an agreement with the player in order to avoid any legal problems with Atletico.

Barca has urged him to hide the fact that he has already made a decision on his future.

They are are requesting ‘patience’ from the Frenchman because until July 1st, no deal can be completed as that is the day when his release clause drops to €120m.

Now, if Barca had a pact with the player then surely they wouldn’t need any signals to give them signs, because they’d already know.
