Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat was in talks with Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, but the two clubs failed to agree on a deal.
That’s according to his brother Nordin Amrabat, who has confirmed that the player was close to linking up with Antonio Conte’s squad at the time.
Amrabat is currently shining at the World Cup with Morocco, playing a key role in their qualification for the knockout stages of the competition courtesy of their superb performances against Croatia, Belgium and Canada.
He is being linked with a move away from Fiorentina in January as a result and Tottenham have again been named as a suitor, with it claimed they are ready to make a second bid for him.
They were keen in the January transfer window, when Conte was given funds to reshape the squad and signed the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.
Amrabat was heavily linked throughout the window, but a deal never happened, and the subject was not broached again come the summer window.
His brother has now confirmed the interest from Tottenham and believes they may face increased competition should they revive that interest next month.
“I am really incredibly proud of Sofyan,” he told De Telegraaf, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.
“When you play so well on such a stage – in three matches against countries like Croatia, Belgium and Canada – you have a lot going for you.
“I think the top clubs in Europe who have been sleeping have now woken up. In January, Sofyan himself was already in talks with Tottenham Hotspur, but there was no agreement on the transfer fee with Fiorentina.
“I think the interested parties will now line up.”
