It seems Estudiantes de La Plata are still pretty confident they will be selling Juan Foyth to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
As reported by Diario Hoy today, the Argentine club may have rejected Tottenham’s first offer for the defender, but the player’s representatives are already sorting documents for his work permit so he can play in England.
The story is actually a little confusing, because the outlet makes it clear that Foyth already has an EU passport. Then they claim this is the ‘first step’, but Diaio Hoy say it’s still very hard to be registered by an English club, with a list of requirements.
They claim his number of continental games for Estudiantes are important, just like his caps for the national team’s youth levels. However, as far as we know, the EU passport will be enough for Tottenham, at least until the Brexit process is complete.
Maybe they’re just too worried about doing things right.
Anyway, the information regarding the offer is very similar to what we’ve covered from El Dia this morning. The bid was $7m upfront, with another $3m in bonuses which can be achieved during his contract at Spurs. But Estudiantes want the entire $10m from Tottenham right now, and will wait for new developments.
Estudiantes and the local Argentine media seem confident Tottenham will eventually play ball, so perhaps they don’t follow the club’s transfers too closely.
Updates are expected on Wednesday, and we’ll continue to keep an eye on the situation.
