On June 29th, Juventus and Barcelona reached an agreement for a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanić and Arthur.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international joined the La Liga winners in a deal worth €60m plus €5m in bonuses, while the Turin club took the Brazilian for €72m plus an additional €10m in variables.
Prior to this, the Old Lady proposed Pjanić to Chelsea in exchange for Jorginho.
However, the Blues didn’t show any interest in conducting this operation, and this has been confirmed by the former Napoli midfielder’s agent.
Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb, Joao Santos said: “Yes. Juventus had proposed an exchange with Pjanic to Chelsea which the English club did not take into consideration. But Paratici never called me. Would he have gone to Juve with [Maurizio] Sarri? I think so.”
The Brazil-born Italy international has three more years left on his contract.
Santos claimed his client’s performances for Chelsea have been appreciated by other clubs, but stressed a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer will only be considered if Jorginho isn’t included in Frank Lampard’s plans.
“Jorginho and the transfer market? Today he is thinking of the national team, of the two games to play. He is happy with Mancini’s call and wants to make his contribution,” the player’s representative explained.
“He has a three year contract with Chelsea. The transfer market is long, it will last until October 5th.
“And if Chelsea think that the boy is no longer part of the project, I would find an alternative solution. Last year he played forty games with Chelsea and is important for the national team.
“We will see. So far, we have not received official proposals. He is however appreciated by many clubs. In his position, there are not many players with his characteristics.”
Santos didn’t provide any information about the clubs who ‘appreciate’ his client.
