This was another year when Anderson Talisca was linked to Manchester United. But it didn’t last long this time, as in July, the player ended up signing for Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande.

However, it seems that the Brazilian did get close on moving to the Red Devils this time. The story is told by Goal Brasil’s blog Ora Bolas this week.

According to the report, Manchester United and Benfica had verbally agreed a fee for the midfielder. He was set to move on a permanent transfer.

What happened was that Guangzhou showed up with an offer for a six-month loan plus an obligatory buying option of €25m, and Benfica accepted it due to the player’s wish.

So according to Goal, Talisca was advised to write a letter to Man United explaining his preference for the Chinese side.

That way, he wouldn’t make Benfica look bad in the situation.

The website just doesn’t explain what was the reason for Guangzhou’s offer to be better.

Perhaps Man United weren’t offering the €25m, or maybe, and more likely, Talisca’s salary in China would be much bigger.
