Juan Mata is ‘willing to reduce’ the wages he was earning at Manchester United to secure a move to Leeds United this summer, with Victor Orta already in talks over a deal.
That’s according to Marca, who cover the veteran’s future today after reports earlier today that Leeds are keen.
We covered a report from AS that stated Leeds chief Orta is already in talks with Mata, who is a free agent after leaving Manchester United this summer, about a move to Elland Road.
Marca back that up, stating that Orta is ‘already negotiating’ with Mata’s father, who acts as the midfielder’s agent.
Raphinha’s impending move to Barcelona has opened the door for the Spaniard to make the move and he is ‘studying’ the offer.
Leeds aren’t the only club to show an interest as Mata has several offers on the table and is ‘debating’ whether to stay in the Premier League or return to La Liga, where Betis are a possible destination.
He is seduced by a return to his homeland, but Betis have made it clear they can’t do a deal at this moment in time. As a result, the opportunity is there for Leeds to get their man.
Mata has made it clear to the Whites, and other interested parties, that he is ‘willing to reduce’ the wages he was earning at Manchester United, thus lowering his wage demands.
Any financial considerations will take second place in his thinking as his priority is to continue playing in a competitive league, as he believes he can still be effective at the highest level.
Thus he is ‘waiting to see what happens with Leeds’, continuing to dream of a move to La Liga that isn’t on offer at this moment in time.
