Any hopes Tottenham Hotspur had of securing Julian Nagelsmann as their next manager appear to have been dashed, with reports in Germany that Bayern Munich are close to snatching the RB Leipzig boss.
The Bundesliga champions will have to pay around €25m in compensation, as they look to replace the outgoing Hansi Flick.
Spurs, therefore, will almost certainly have to look elsewhere and have been linked with a string of possibilities since announcing Jose Mourinho had been shown the exit door.
The Italian media have been insistent that Maurizio Sarri, currently out of work having left Juventus in August of last year, is an option for Tottenham, despite his past with their fierce rivals Chelsea.
Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia has suggested that Lorenzo Insigne’s future could be tied to that of the manager, which brings a move to Tottenham into the picture.
Insigne has a contract with Napoli expiring in June 2022, and the longer a renewal is pushed away the more questions will arise regarding the player’s future.
Area Napoli quote Bargiggia as saying: “The future of Insigne could travel on the same tracks as that of Sarri: the offensive winger has found himself very well with the coach and would be willing to follow him to Roma or Tottenham or some other destination.”
Sarri and Insigne worked well together at Napoli, so the idea of a reunion somewhere else is something the Italian media can believe.
