Andreas Pereira moved to Lazio on loan at the start of the current season, with reports saying the Serie A club had an option to make the transfer permanent for €25-27m.
That was seen as a good deal for Manchester United, at least given the headline figure. In reality, it never likely Lazio would pay such an amount even if the player had a brilliant season.
The 25-year-old has appeared in 16 Serie A matches, yet has only managed to amass 316 minutes across all of them. Citta Celeste report Pereira ‘will return to Manchester United’ when his loan deal ends.
They add it’s ‘impossible to believe’ Lazio will spend €27m on ‘a player who has shown quality, but has never had a decisive impact’. La Lazio Siamo Noi back this stance up.
Andreas Pereira has a contract with Manchester United lasting until June 2023, although it must be considered unlikely he has a real chance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Failing to shine at Lazio won’t have helped his market value and the Premier League club may now have to reevaluate what they can realistically ask for his transfer.
Neither source mentions it, but there may be a chance Lazio could be tempted into another season long loan if the conditions are good and Pereira can show a little more before the end of the season.
