There’s a curious article from Mundo Deportivo on Tuesday about Samuel Umtiti.
Whilst Manchester City have been linked to the Barcelona defender previously, it’s been far more their neighbours Manchester United who have had the concentration of the Catalan media over the past couple of weeks.
Despite that Mundo Deportivo have explained why Umtiti will reject clubs like Manchester City and PSG ‘if he’s intelligent’.
It’s explained that Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two clubs top footballers really want to play for. They have all the history, glamour and glory, as well as deep pockets.
Meanwhile, Manchester City and PSG are simply newly rich, and don’t have the same foundation as clubs. Therefore, Umtiti would surely not consider such a move away from Barcelona unless the club force him out at some point.
Any move from Barcelona or Real Madrid is described as a step down by Mundo Deportivo. It wasn’t so long ago Barcelona only had a solitary European Cup to their name, the Messi era has rewritten the club’s often not so glorious history.
