With a bunch of players out on loan, Chelsea will have hoped some would stay where they were in exchange for money.
A few did, like Mario Pasalić, for whom Atalanta paid €15m, but Davide Zappacosta, it seems, will be coming back.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Friday, claiming that the emergence of Bruno Peres of late as the starter and the fact the Italian has been out injured for most of the season haven’t worked in his favour.
With all that in mind, the Italian newspaper write that ‘in all probability, Zappacosta will return to Chelsea’, meaning that the Brazilian, whose contract with the Rome club expires in 2021, will either remain as the right-back going forward or ‘find a new good team’.
As for the Stamford Bridge resident, we highly doubt Frank Lampard has any plans for him going forward, meaning he will either be sold or Marina Granovskaia will have to look around to find him a new loan spell for the 2020-21 campaign.
The defender, who signed from Torino back in 2017 for £22.5m, is under contract with the London club until 2022.
