Chelsea are working to get to a deal with the Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga still tonight, the Basque press says in yet another update.
El Correo reports the Blues’ intention is to have an agreement with the player ready so they can pay for his release clause on Wednesday morning.
If everything goes according to plan, Kepa won’t train with Athletic tomorrow, as he would fly to London to complete the move. That makes sense, considering he’s already left the Basque region.
El Correo state that Kepa has flown to Madrid this afternoon, of which there’s picture evidence in Spain, and things have been in a rush. They say it’s ‘very likely’ he could play against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Chelsea would pay €80m for the player, who would sign a contract of ‘about’ five years. The salary, which will be over €6m per season, is €1.5m bigger than what he makes at Athletic.
Kepa is said to be listening to Chelsea’s offer at this very moment, and his ‘yes’ is all the Blues need to make the transfer complete tomorrow.
