Over the past 24 hours or so, the idea that Darwin Nuñez could move to Liverpool has grown tremendously.

It all started when Record said the Reds were offering €100m for the striker, with details later coming out the fee was €80m up front with €20m or so in bonuses.

That wasn’t accepted straight away, and there is still some negotiating going on, but the general consensus, despite reported competition from Manchester United and Newcastle United, is that he’ll head to Liverpool.

The latest on the matter comes from Uruguayan journalist Sebastián Giovanelli, who took to Twitter to backup claims that Liverpool have ‘improved the offer again’ for Nuñez.

The amounts aren’t revealed, but what is clear is that both the striker and the man helping him out for his transfer to the Premier League, a certain Jorge Mendes, ‘will choose the fate of the footballer in these hours’.

Giovanelli then adds that both Manchester United and Newcastle ‘continue to bid’, although without Champions League football, you would think they would be somewhat behind in the pecking order on Nuñez’s list.

Record even made it clear on Wednesday that the forward was very keen to move to Anfield, having been impressed with the atmosphere there when the two clubs faced each other in last season’s European campaign.

Then again, perhaps Manchester United and Newcastle can offer him more money? We’ll have to wait and see.
