Pushed to one side by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea, Tammy Abraham decided it was best for him to try his luck elsewhere, finding a home abroad at AS Roma, where he reunited with José Mourinho.
The 24-year-old has had his fair share of ups and downs since the move, but the general consensus is that he’s been a good buy, with 17 goals in 30 appearances to date, as well as four assists.
Chelsea, down their end, will soon have a buy-back clause of €80m, which Corriere dello Sport shine a light on on Friday, as they look at Abraham’s time in Rome so far.
They explain that, after six months, the striker ‘is worth more than €40m plus bonuses spent by Roma in the summer’, believing that they should make a profit should any club come in the summer.
In fact, they explain the €80m buy-back clause ‘doesn’t seem disproportionate’, because it will be ‘consistent with his value’ when it becomes active in 2023.
For Abraham, this being triggered would be great, because he ‘would like to go home one day through the front door to conquer the showroom of his Premier League’.
If that happens, AS Roma would have had him for a season and a half, all the while ‘obtaining robust compensation’.
We’ll have to wait and see if he impresses enough for that, but the deal is there for Chelsea to be done if they so wish in less than 12 months time.
