You might already be aware that Antonio Conte wants another player in before the end of the transfer window at Tottenham.
Spurs tried to sign Nicolo Zaniolo, but faced some pushback from AS Roma’s owners, who asked for the money up front, which the London club weren’t prepared to pay.
They then moved onto Ruslan Malinovskyi, currently at Atalanta, but found themselves in a fight with Marseille, who have Cengiz Ünder to offer in return.
While that was attractive for the Serie A side, they are facing a few issues, such as the fact the Turkish winger ‘doesn’t want to leave Marseille, even less so for Atalanta’.
This comes from Foot Mercato, who add that this reluctance, despite the forward being told he doesn’t fit in his manager’s plans, is putting the brakes on a deal.
On top of that, while Malinovskyi would be OK to move to the south of France, he would ‘prefer to join Tottenham’.
Because both Marseille and Atalanta are ‘very far away from an agreement’, the whole deal is said to be ‘very complex’ to get over the line.
Basically, ‘if the player doesn’t sign for Tottenham’, this could go on for a little while yet between the French and Italian clubs.
Now, the ball appears to be in Spurs’ court, as they have the opportunity to swoop in and get it all wrapped up quickly.
