Real Sociedad goalkeeper Gero Rulli is still pretty hopeful of joining Manchester City someday.
The 24-year-old, who once belonged to the English club, says he’s prepared if the buy-back option to bring him back to take him to Manchester City is activated.
Speaking to Gol Televisón (via Marca) on Thursday, Rulli said: “I think there are few players who would tell you that they don’t want to play in one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I’m going to tell you that I’m not desperate to go either, because we are doing things very well here in the Real and we can aspire to many great things.
“If the opportunity comes, it is very difficult to say no, because they are one of the best teams in the world and all the players want to play in those teams. I will not lie to you that my idea is to get there tomorrow, but first there is Real and what I think is to improve to get there tomorrow.
“If you ask my teammates, 95% will tell you the same thing I’m saying to you. It’s a big one in Europe, one of the great ones in the world and it’s a league that tomorrow I’d like to play in. I believe these three years serve to improve as a keeper and as a person and, if the opportunity shows up, Real helped me to be prepared for everything.”
In the next three summer markets, Manchester City have the right to buy Rulli for the price of €14m.
Despite having belonged to Manchester City for the first half of the season, he never spent time at the club. The goalkeeper has been playing for Real Sociedad on loan from different sides since 2014, and made a permanent transfer earlier this year in a €7m deal.
Rulli has always been an interesting option for Manchester City, and given the club’s struggles to find a number one goalkeeper now, the Argentine becomes an obvious choice for Pep Guardiola to solve his problems.
According to official statements from Real Sociedad, the buy-back clause must be activated between May and June of each year.
