Michy Batshuayi is the third-choice striker at Chelsea, behind Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.
Frank Lampard, so far, has started Abraham in his side’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United and the Frenchman was included in the starting XI against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup.
This has led to reports coming out of Italy claiming AS Roma have taken interest in the Belgium international.
However, a move to the Serie A remains unlikely, at least ‘for the time being’ claims Het Laatste Nieuws, because those close to the 25-year-old suggest the player wants to fight for a place with the Europa League winners.
Lampard has already stressed he selects his starting XI based on training and this could be a hint for Batshuayi to step up his efforts in order to impress his boss.
HLN claim neither of Abraham or Giroud have impressed so far, meaning there is time for Batshuayi to convince Lampard. In addition to this, the Blues also have no plans of getting rid of him.
It remains to be see if Batshuayi and Chelsea’s stance stays the same over the next few weeks.
