Thomas Vermaelen is expected to leave Barcelona this summer, after making 11 league appearances in two seasons. The Belgian international has failed to make the sort of impact he’d have wanted at Barcelona.

The arrival of Samuel Umtiti at the club means Vermaelen can look for a new club, and has been linked to a whole raft of clubs in the Premier League and around Europe.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Vermaelen wants to return to Arsenal, and their headline says he’s awaiting a call from the club.

West Ham reportedly have made a ‘strong bid’ for the player, whilst AS Roma have also been negotiating with Barcelona.

Sport say Vermaelen will decide his future before the start of the pre-season training. The training camp starts in a week, and Sport say Vermaelen’s transfer should be sorted out ‘the coming hours’.

An Arsenal return would be surprising to say the least, but the West ham claims are widespread in Spain.
