Manchester City ‘want’ Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba, writes journalist Cristina Cubero in her column for Mundo Deportivo.

The 18-year-old is currently being forced to train with the reserves due to his refusal to sign a new deal at the Camp Nou.

His contract expires in 2022 and although the player has the desire to sign an extension, Moriba wants to improve his salary after playing 14 league matches and making a few more appearances in other competitions last season.

Ronald Koemam admitted the teenager’s ‘situation is horrible’ and suggested he shouldn’t focus on money at this stage of his career.

According to Cubero, Moriba has offers from Chelsea, RB Leipzig and City. Pep Guardiola’s side, however, will only look to sign the player if he can arrive at the Etihad on a free transfer next summer.

A move to Manchester City in 2022 will benefit the midfielder and his agent since they will receive a signing on bonus and higher commission respectively.

If Moriba decides against signing an extension at Barcelona and doesn’t get a move elsewhere before the window closes, Cubero says he will be made to train with the reserves this season.
