Earlier this week, journalist Sacha Tavolieri stated Newcastle United could act to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko in the winter market.
Voetbal Krant state the winger is a ‘concrete’ target for the English club to improve their attack.
They report Newcastle want to secure the 21-year-old’s services in January and have already taken steps to try and get this deal over the line.
The Magpies have held ‘very positive’ talks with the Belgium international’s agent and he’s interested in joining Eddie Howe’s side. The report adds the agreement between the two parties is ‘very close’, without providing any further details.
Newcastle have to agree a deal with the Dutch club and these negotiations will be difficult.
His contract lasts until 2026 and Transfermarkt currently values him at €40m. It’s claimed the Eredivisie side are requesting €50m for the attacker, while the Tyneside club want to offer €30m.
Newcastle are convinced a deal can be secured for a lower offer because Bakayoko’s deal expires in 2026. The positive talks with his agent should also give them an upper hand. There should be more developments in this case in the next few weeks.
Bakayoko has managed six goals and three assists from 21 games this season.
