Le10 Sport are reporting on Wednesday that Willian is now ‘on the verge’ of signing for Arsenal. There’s been reports about the potential move for a while, and over the past week or so it’s been made clear the Gunners were closest to sealing the deal.

Willian couldn’t agree on an extension with Chelsea, with the Brazilian wanting a longer contract than that which was on offer to him, and Le10 say he’s about to sign a two year deal with Arsenal.

All parties involved are said to have reached an agreement. There’ll be no transfer fee given Willian’s free-agent status, but it’s not just wages which need to be settled. The player’s agents will be looking for their cut from the deal, and there may also be a signing-on fee requested.

Arsenal have made it clear how tight their finances are at the moment and whilst the Willian deal will cost them a significant amount in the long term, they’ll feel the lack of a transfer fee will help their current situation.

Le10 Sport is a French website, and they can be very dramatic sometimes with their claims, but there’s a reasonable chance this story is well sourced. They’ve had a string of claims on Marquinhos previously, some of which the player went on to confirm, and he’s represented by Giuliano Bertolucci.

Bertolucci often works alongside Kia Joorabchian, who has become increasingly involved at Arsenal since Edu arrived at the London club.

Edu’s move to Arsenal was, of course, mediated by Joorabchian.
