When The Sun claimed a few days ago that Manchester United are weighing up making a £30m offer for Everton, it was only a matter of time before the story ended up in Brazil and was inflated.
Whereas in England the claims would usually be brushed off, they take it more seriously in Brazil, believing it wouldn’t be reported if there wasn’t at least a little behind it.
That trust, and perhaps hope, that clubs like Manchester United are continually looking at the club’s league, often leads to the player involved being question, and his current club.
Globo Esporte reference interest from Manchester United and their neighbours City, although it’s pointed out the latter is likely old, and quote 22 year old Everton as saying: “We hear rumours, but nothing concrete came for me and Gremio. When it arrives, we’ll sit down and see what’s best. I’m at a very good time, and football is about the moment, we do not know tomorrow. You cannot deny that it is great recognition, a unique opportunity. For the footballer who dreams of playing at a high level, he has to have that dream of playing in European football.”
Globo exaggerate the English claims, and say the following: ‘United moves to make a proposal for the attacker with figures close to £30m. So far, Gremio says they haven’t received any contact.’
The Brazilian club’s president Romildo Bolzan Júnior is then quoted making it clear that any offer for the forward needs to be above the £30m which has been claimed: “We have absolutely nothing. No news that may come from there. His clause is €80m. £30m is far from it, we have no interest in doing it, but if you have to listen to a proposal, it might be better at the beginning of the season than in the middle. Our desire is to count on Everton for next year.”
Right now, there seems very little in this.
