Benfica defender Morato is ‘trying to convince’ the club to accept an offer from Fulham as he wants to move to the Premier League.
That’s according to O Jogo, Record and Correio da Manhã Weekend, who all cover the player today and Fulham’s efforts to get him.
A report yesterday from Portugal stated that Marco Silva’s side had made a definitive move for the defender, offering €25m to try and get a deal over the line.
O Jogo back this up, stating Fulham ‘returned to the charge’ for Morato and presented a new offer worth €25m that would also see the player quadruple his wages in England.
The Brazilian is ‘seduced’ by both the project on offer at Fulham and the high salary offered and he ‘intends to leave’ for Craven Cottage this summer. He won’t force his way out of Benfica but sees the proposal as an excellent one for all parties and wants it accepted.
Record back this up, stating that Morata has asked Benfica directly to accept the €25m offer on the table, with the newspaper also confirming that figure has been offered.
The signing of the 22-year-old is a request from Marco Silva and the player believes that the sums placed on the table should be accepted. Indeed, he feels they should be enough to convince Benfica to sell.
He sees the opportunity to play in the Premier League, improve his salary considerably and also bring in a significant income for Benfica as an opportunity that should not be passed up.
Correio da Manhã Weekend say similar, stating that Morato has ‘asked Benfica’ to accept the €25m offer from Fulham after growing ‘impatient’ with a lack of progress.
He can earn four times what he currently does in Portugal and wants the move so has now taken the step of ‘requesting the departure’.
That is now in Benfica’s hands, though, and they are hesitating, as the player is a big part of Roger Schmidt’s plans for next season.
