Tottenham Hotspur are now very close to completing the signing of Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet, according to the latest reports from the Catalan media.
Sport writes the player is already in London. He’s set to have a medical ‘in the next few hours’, and ‘except for last-minute turns’, he’ll close his transfer to Spurs.
Tottenham are set to sign Lenglet on a loan deal, during which they’ll pay 85% of his salary, with Barcelona continuing to cover the rest.
In case Spurs are satisfied with his year in the Premier League, then they’ll have an option to make the move permanent with a €10m buying clause.
Sport points out the claims about the salary split had originally been made by Marca, also claiming that Barcelona’s original plan would have been to have Spurs pay the entirety of Lenglet’s wages.
Lenglet joined Barcelona in a move from Sevilla back in 2018, and made 158 appearances for the Camp Nou side. Given their need to get rid of multiple salaries from their squad, his departure was always likely in the current window.
