Arsenal are interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, if claims coming out of Germany are to be believed.
According to Sport Bild, the 23-year-old is on ‘top of the list’ at the Emirates and could become the Gunners’ ‘new defensive boss’.
The centre-back’s contract with the Bundesliga side runs down in 2023 and it’s claimed he has a clause of €40m in his current deal. The fee could be ‘little higher’ if Leverkusen qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Leverkusen are fifth in the table with 40 points, trailing fourth place Borussia Mönchengladbach by two points. The latter also have a game in hand.
Sport Bild makes it clear that Tah’s €40m release clause is only valid before the start of the European championship on June 12th. He has an affordable price tag.
Mikel Arteta’s side are not the only club chasing the Germany international as the report adds Atlético Madrid have also registered their interest in the player.
It remains to be seen if Arsenal can beat Atlético in signing Tah, if they fail to make it to the Champions League.
