Here we are, with Switzerland about to play their second game of the 2020 Euros, and Granit Xhaka remains an Arsenal player.
For a few weeks now, it’s been drilled into our heads how badly AS Roma and, more importantly, José Mourinho want the midfielder in their squad next season, and yet no deal has been struck.
The two clubs remain at odds over the final fee for the transfer, but Corriere dello Sport make it clear that isn’t putting off the Italians.
In fact, Xhaka remains the ‘main objective’ for the club and is the ‘most concrete negotiation’ the club are currently dealing with.
With the first offer of €15m rejected, it’s expected that Arsenal would cave in if a bid was closer to €20m, but everything could rest on the Switzerland international’s shoulders.
Entrusted by his parents with the house keys at a young age, Xhaka could also hold the keys to his own transfer, as Corriere explain that ‘after the Euros, he will ask the Gunners executives to let him go because he considers his time in London as over’.
The midfielder ‘already feels’ like a Roma player, ‘has made his choice and has communicated it to his national teammates’.
Let’s wait and see what happens then.
