Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has the ability to play for an absolute top club and “it would be great” if he were to join Manchester United.
That’s according to Feyenoord favourite Willem van Hanegem, who has backed the Mexican striker to secure a big move in future as he’s more than good enough to do so.
Gimenez has been starring for Feyenoord since joining from Cruz Azul in a €6m deal in June last year and enjoyed a superb first campaign with the club, bagging 23 goals and three assists in 45 games in total.
He’s continued where he left off this season, with a tally of 12 goals and two assists in nine games continuing his good form and increasing the attention around him.
Several big sides around Europe are believed to be keen on his signature and keeping an eye on him, with Manchester United among them, despite the big money signing of Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Van Hanegem would certainly be glad to see the striker make such a move in future, although he doesn’t believe it’s on the cards just yet.
“He has the qualities to play at the absolute top, in England or Spain,” he said.
“It would be great if he plays for Real Madrid or Manchester United. He will only remain at Feyenoord for the time being. Everyone likes him very much; he doesn’t get nervous when he misses an opportunity.
“He doesn’t get desperate, for example he could have made 15 or 16 already. That’s how you look at him, because he has those qualities.
“He doesn’t get stuck in it, that’s a sign that things are going well in his head. He remains calm, he knows he will be a top scorer.”
