Manchester City have ‘entered into talks’ with Anderlecht regarding defender Sergio Gomez after moving away from a deal for Marc Cucurella.
That’s according to Le Soir, who say the promising left-back ‘has been targeted’ by Manchester City in their hunt for a new left-back.
Pep Guardiola and co have been targeting Cucurella for much of the summer, with them determined to sign a new left-back this summer after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal.
That’s left them short in the position but talks for the Brighton star have not progressed and he looks likely to join Chelsea instead.
That, according to Le Soir, has seen Manchester City turn their attention elsewhere and they have now ‘targeted’ Anderlecht’s Gomez.
The 21-year-old has impressed for the Belgian side with seven goals and 15 assists in 49 games in all competitions, after signing from Borussia Dortmund in a €2.25m deal.
Those numbers have seen him earn plenty of attention, particularly in the Premier League, and Manchester City have now pushed themselves to the front of the queue.
They’ve ‘entered into talks’ with Anderlecht over a potential deal but Le Soir say that it remains to be seen whether the Belgian side will let the player go this summer.
That would suggest negotiations are not advanced in any way, but that could certainly change, particularly if Manchester City open their chequebook and put a serious offer on the table.
