Nicolai Jorgensen to Newcastle United was a bit of a mess in the January transfer window. The striker wanted the transfer from Feyenoord, Rafael Benitez had clearly given his go-ahead, but the two clubs couldn’t agreed on a price.
That then led to a big drop in form for Jorgensen and he’s spoken about the situation several times now, explaining how he never wants to go through something like that again.
Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet say it almost cost the player his place in Denmark’s World Cup squad, and they quote him as saying: “Anything involving transfers, I don’t want to be part of again. If that happens, it happens when you finish a medical and sign a done deal. It should not be such a thing where I’m involved, and you hear something one place, something else in the press and something completely third from others. It was just a circus. It shouldn’t happen again.”
Explaining that the failed transfer put him in a ‘bad mood’, Jorgensen hasn’t give up hopes of a future move, he just doesn’t want to know anything about it until everything is agreed.
Having a plan to stay at the Dutch club for a couple of seasons after signing in 2016, the 27 year old striker doesn’t want to waste too much time: “It was the plan that I should go to Feyenoord for two years and develop myself as a player. I think I’ve done that. So it’s about now, if it’s going to happen. The Premier League is the biggest challenge for all players.
“It’s the highest pace and it could be fun to play there one day. But if that happens, time must show. I’m glad to be in Feyenoord, and it will not be the end of the world to stay one more year.”
There’s no mention from either Ekstra Bladet or Jorgensen about Newcastle United potentially coming back in.
