Germany’s Oliver Bierhoff has given a long interview to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, in which he talked a lot about the German national team.
And as the Old Lady have been keeping an eye on a couple of German players for upcoming transfer windows, they took the chance to ask Bierhoff if any players could be joining soon.
There are two special players who have been linked to Juventus lately: Emre Can from Liverpool and Leon Goretzka from Schalke 04. Both of them are known by Bierhoff pretty well, so he had a lot to say.
As both the Liverpool and Schalke players are running out of contract with their clubs at the end of the season, Bierhoff said: “We are talking about two important players: they will have many options for the future, these are personal choices.”
Bierhoff also commented on the top leagues that a player would choose these days: “At this moment England is the top for a player and after the Premier League there are the Spanish powers, as an attraction. Certainly both Emre Can and Goretzka could also be successful in Serie A. Unless Inter return to the top, now if one of these players had to choose Italy, they would do it only for Juventus.”
“They are similar. Emre Can is a number 6 and has physical power: his way of playing is perfect for Italy. Goretzka is different: he attacks the space more, he’s more of a trequartista.”
On the chances that each of them will be joining Juve, Bierhoff said: “Goretzka few chances, maybe not even 20%. Emre Can I think he has a lot more, I would say 60-80%.”
That’s a worry for Liverpool, who still don’t seem on the verge of announcing a Can renewal. Juventus have been linked almost daily for months in the Italy media, and if Howedes puts Goretzka’s chances so low, and Can so high, up to 80%, then it suggests he knows a Liverpool exit is increasingly likely.
Not what Jurgen Klopp will want to hear, and even Can may be a bit surprised at how open Bierhoff was with his answer.
