Earlier on Tuesday, we covered a report from Gazzetta dello Sport which stated Liverpool are ‘in pole’ to sign Emerson Palmieri.

The Italian newspaper explained Pamieri can leave AS Roma for an agree price of €25m, and Liverpool were pushed forward despite Jurgen Klopp already having Alberto Moreno and Andy Robertson at his disposal.

Since then we’ve gone through the rest of the Italian media, and the claims are everywhere. Calciomercato say Emerson has his ‘suitcases’ and could be off to the Premier League, with Liverpool again said to be in pole for the player.

Whilst that could be seen as a response to the Gazzetta claims, other Tuesday newspaper claims can’t… given they were released at the same time. La Repubblica have it, and also mention Liverpool.

Il Messaggero do the same. Going over Roma’s ‘men of the market’, it’s made clear the club are looking to sell players this month, and there’s been a briefing around the Italian media.

Once again only mentioning Liverpool, Il Messaggero also have the €25m figure. Jurgen Klopp’s side are also linked with a possible swoop for Emerson’s teammate Kevin Strootman.

This sounds very much like Roma trying to sell to Liverpool, rather than the Anfield club making the running. The repeated claims of Liverpool being ‘in pole’, and not only presented as the likeliest destination but actually the only club named, perhaps hints Roma are eyeing some of the Coutinho money.

It may be worth Klopp having a glance at Roma’s squad and seeing if there’s anyone he fancies.

The last transfer to arrive at Liverpool from the Italian club worked out rather well.
