On Sunday we covered a report which explained there’s simply been no progress in negotiations for Joao Felix to join Aston Villa this summer.
The idea wasn’t considered dead but nothing serious was happening. That came after claims in Portugal that Villa don’t want a permanent deal, and claims from Spain that the Premier League club believe Atletico Madrid are asking for unrealistic levels of money.
Today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo reports Aston Villa remains the ‘most likely’ destination. Interestingly it’s insisted Atletico Madrid want to see the back of him on a permanent transfer and are not considering a loan at this stage.
Benfica remain keen, although the Portuguese newspaper explain they’re hoping all other avenues fail and they can secure an absolute bargain when Atletico get desperate at the end of the window.
As it stands, it feels like Aston Villa interest is being clung to. It makes sense the club would only want an initial loan given Joao Felix didn’t exactly impress at Chelsea and would come with a huge salary cost attached, as well as any fee.
