Marcos Rojo has recently been a topic for several controversies in Argentina, both on and off the pitch. So when announced by Boca Juniors this week, the transfer made a big noise in the local press.
When the former Manchester United defender went to have his first training session with the Buenos Aires side on Wednesday, he was forced to leave the pitch due to calf discomfort.
Well, that was enough for a loan of memes among Argentine football fans, who always claimed he’d be a risky signing given his lack of playing time with Manchester United, calling him ‘Marcos Roto’.
There was a big mystery around his injury, and on Thursday, Boca Juniors released a picture of him back in training. As reported by Olé, the issue was diagnosed as ‘contracture due to inactivity’.
That means Marcos Rojo’s time without playing at Manchester United indeed had some results on his physique. The defender will now have a lighter training programme until he’s able to join the squad again.
The last time Rojo played a game for the Red Devils was in a Premier League clash against Brighton in November 2019. Then the defender had a loan spell at Estudiantes in the first semester of 2020, where he only had one match.
So that’s nearly a year without a single appearance.
