Aïssa Mandi has less than three months left on his current deal at Real Betis.
At the start of last month, we relayed news from Spain that Liverpool ‘want to take advantage’ of the defender’s contract situation.
On March 8th, the Seville media explained the 29-year-old is looking for €2m net salary to join a new club. The La Liga side were hopeful of retaining the centre-back by offering him a new deal.
Estadio Deportivo published a report yesterday on the Algeria international, titled ‘Goodbye, Mandi’.
It’s claimed the player has decided not to accept the renewal proposal offered by Manuel Pellegrini’s side and his intention is to leave Real Betis after this season.
Mandi is yet to communicate his decision to the Spanish club, and he intends to do that soon, unless there are any last-minute surprises.
This development will not come as a surprise at Estadio Benito Villamarín, after he asked for more time to decide on his future. Those in charge at Real Betis are of the belief they are ‘fewer options’ for him to renew his contract.
ED explain the player has not decided where he wants to play next and the Merseyside club are in the list of suitors.
He has been talking to Inter Milan in recent days and everything indicates he could end up in Italy next season. Apart from Antonio Conte’s side, Mandi is also ‘studying’ interest from Lyon and Liverpool. The Reds contacted him ‘months ago’.
Real Betis are ‘preparing to say goodbye’ to Mandi and there should be more clarity soon on which club he will join next. Sources close to the operation tell Estadio Deportivo things should be clear either this weekend or by next week.
