Player ‘strong enough to continue’ at Barcelona – Hoping for new contract at Camp Nou

Luis Suárez will turn 33 on January 24th and his current deal at Barcelona will run down in 2021.

Despite his age, the Uruguay international has been the first-choice striker for Ernesto Valverde and has repaid his manager’s faith by netting 13 goals and registering six assists in all competitions this term.

Over the past couple of months, Spanish newspapers have talked about the importance of bringing in a player who will be the long-term replacement for the former Liverpool star.

Earlier this month, AS reported Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez has emerged as a priority target for the La Liga winners.

Even though Barca are preparing for a life without Suárez, the South American’s intention is to continue with the Catalan club beyond next season.

“I am very happy at the club. I have always given myself to the fullest. Statistics and numbers support me, I think I am up to the task and when it comes to conversation [for renewal], we will arrive at a good conclusion,” Suárez told Sport.

The outlet adds the player feels ‘strong enough to continue’ for a longer period of time (beyond June 2021) and that he can carry on contributing to Barcelona.
