On Wednesday morning, reports from the French media claimed Newcastle United were one of the contenders to sign Julian Draxler from Paris Saint Germain, with the French club keen to part ways.
It was said the Magpies have been ‘charging’ to sign the 28-year-old, who has been training away from PSG’s squad.
Now as the Portuguese media shares an update on Draxler’s situation, they actually bring bad news for anyone who wanted to see him signing for Newcastle.
As reported on Record’s website, the midfielder is already in Lisbon to sign for Benfica. The outlet even has a picture of him landing in the capital to close the deal with the Eagles.
A Bola is another one confirming that he’s ready to sign for the Portuguese side, even though none of the reports brings any information on how much the deal will cost.
With Newcastle missing out on this target, we shall see whether the Magpies will still look for alternatives in the market in the final couple of days of the summer window.
