Defender Aaron Anselmino has revealed his move to Chelsea this month came about suddenly and certainly wasn’t planned.
TyC Sports cover comments from the defender today after he was stopped at Ezeiza Airport by ESPN before catching a flight to move to Chelsea.
Anselmino is joining Chelsea this month ahead of time after being signed by the Blues in the summer transfer window.
They moved to secure the youngster head of the competition at that point and agreed a deal with Boca Juniors that saw him remain at the Argentine club to continue his development.
The initial plan was for him to remain at Boca Juniors until the end of the season but that has now been changed, with Chelsea making the decision earlier this week to add him to Enzo Maresca’s squad ahead of that point.
He’s now on his way to London to link up with Enzo Maresca’s side, with it yet to be determined what role he will play under the Italian given he already has plenty of options in central defence already.
Anselmino certainly wasn’t expecting the call, admitting that he hadn’t seen it coming when he spoke to ESPN in the airport.
“I always felt the love of the fans with me. This year I had to get injured often (four times). God willing that I come back one day. It’s my home and it’s a crazy thing that can’t be seen anywhere,” he said.
“Everything happened to me quickly, very suddenly. I was in the National Team and I didn’t know if I had to travel or stay. They told me that they wanted to have me in their ranks.
“I spoke with Román (Riquelme-Boca president) on the day of the sale. He called me on the phone and congratulated me. He is a person that I respect and admire a lot,
“(I’m) happy for this new opportunity. It is something dreamed of for anyone. I am very excited.”
