Late during the transfer window, Brentford were looking for a new midfielder, targeting Marseille’s Azzedine Ounahi in a last ditch effort.

This was reported in the French media, with multiple sources claiming the Bees were after the Morocco international, who had only joined in January from Angers.

The change of formation at Marseille with the arrival of Marcelino has caused problems, since no defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder is being used in the 4-4-2, and RMC Sport report that issues are appearing within the Ligue 1 team because of it.

One of them concerns Ounahi directly, which will be a big red flag had Brentford decided to try again in January.

That’s because the Marseille staff reckon the player ‘isn’t putting enough effort in training’, while those surrounding the Bees target claim he is getting ‘impatient’, a bit surprised he isn’t being used more.

When he has been used, it’s mainly been down the wings with defensive responsibilities, whereas he would want a more packed midfield where he can ‘express his qualities’.

At Brentford, who tend to use three men in midfield, whether it be in a 5-3-2 or a 4-3-3, he would have a spot waiting for him.

Whether it’s lethargy because he’s aware he won’t always play, or simply laziness, only Ounahi knows, but Thomas Frank will want to be aware of this if there is a plan to return for him in the winter transfer window.
