Ajax star Jurriën Timber has ‘set his sights’ on Arsenal and would prefer to join them over the likes of Bayern Munich this summer.
That’s according to De Telegraaf and Algemeen Dagblad, who say the defender would be happy to make the move to the Emirates after rejecting Premier League offers last year.
The former explains that Timber is ‘only concerned’ with a move to Arsenal at this moment in time, with Bayern yet to make an offer for him and it ‘highly questionable’ whether he would join the German giants anyway after watching former teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui struggle in Bavaria.
Their limited playing time this season makes a move ‘less appealing’ and puts Arsenal at the front of the queue for him.
They’ve already seen a bid of €35m rejected and are yet to get close to Ajax’s €60m asking price but it is believed the two clubs will find an agreement.
Personal terms with the player are already sorted, with Timber offered a €150,000 a week five-year deal. Timber and his business manager Christopher Coffie of Forza Sports Group have already struck that ‘outline agreement’ with the Gunners.
Algemeen Dagblad, meanwhile, state that Arsenal have already made a bid to Ajax, and they are the type of club that could tempt Timber to leave.
That’s because Mikel Arteta’s side is one that the player can see himself flourishing in, with him believing that he can force himself into the first team given he can play in several positions.
That does not make a switch a foregone conclusion as Arsenal will still need to find a deal with Ajax, who want a big sum to let their star defender depart.
With Timber keen, though, and personal terms already struck, there is very much a deal there to be done for Arsenal.
