Kieran Trippier’s transfer to Newcastle United should be done in the coming hours, according to claims from the Spanish media.
Newspaper AS now features a story saying the right-back is leaving Atletico Madrid ‘between this afternoon and tomorrow’.
The player, who did not take part in today’s training session, is said to be waiting for the agreement between the clubs so he can pack his bags and travel to England.
AS writes that the move isn’t happening because of economic reasons, but for Trippier’s wish. It’s said he wants to be closer to his family, as his wife and kids still live in the UK, and Atletico weren’t able to convince him to stay.
Atletico Madrid know they’re ‘much more of a team’ than Newcastle, as they won La Liga last season and play in the Champions League, so it’s really a family issue which convinced the player to leave.
AS claims the clubs are ‘closing the last details’ for the move. The transfer should be done for below €15m, and even though the Colchoneros believe that’s a bad deal, they’re being respectful to the player’s wish, willing to help his situation.
