According to claims in the Dutch media Robbin Ruiter is close to his proposed move to Sunderland. The 30 year old goalkeeper has recently been on trial with the Championship side.

De Telegraaf have reported Sunderland are close to agreeing a deal with the Dutchman, with claims he’s set to sign a two year deal with the club. Ruiter either travelled to England on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, report De Telegraaf, and will today have his medical before signing for the club.

It’s expected final talks will continue over the formalities of the deal, and it’s hoped the player will be available for Sunderland’s opening game of the season against Derby County on Friday night.

We recently reported it was only a matter of time before Ruiter joined Sunderland. The former FC Utrecht keeper impressed whilst on trial with the Black Cats, and with the departure of Jordan Pickford to Everton, Ruiter could be a good addition to Simon Grayson’s squad.
