In the final week of the summer window, we covered claims from the French media which said Nottingham Forest were in ‘advanced negotiations’ to sign Djibril Sidibé.
The player became a free agent following the end of his contract with AS Monaco, and outlet Foot Mercato came up to say there was a ‘total agreement’ for a one-year contract with the Reds.
That report even claimed that only ‘certain details’ would still need to be sorted, and it seemed like the 30-year-old was indeed very close to signing for Nottingham Forest.
It turns out the move never happened, and according to a new report from Foot Mercato, Sidibé is actually on his way to Greece.
The outlet writes that the player is ‘expected tomorrow’ at AEK Athens for his medical, and should soon be announced by the club.
Foot Mercato even recalls the talks with Nottingham Forest, claiming the player ‘had reached an agreement’ with the Reds, but ‘did not commit’ to the Premier League side.
In the end, the English club still signed two right-backs this summer, with Neco Williams and Giulian Biancone both arriving at the City Ground.
