On Saturday, we covered reports from the Catalan media saying the ‘negotiations have reopened’ for João Cancelo to swap Manchester City for Barcelona.
It was claimed the player accepted lowering his salary to complete the move, and that was a ‘first step’ for the transfer, as the clubs would now negotiate a fee.
Now as Spanish newspaper AS writes about the fullback, they claim that Cancelo is indeed set to leave Manchester City for Barcelona, as long as there isn’t a ‘radical’ change in the scenario.
It’s said the clubs are ‘very close’ to agreeing a deal, and the idea is to get that done next week, with the player moving on a loan with an option for a permanent transfer.
According to AS, the ‘insistence’ from Cancelo on making the transfer has been ‘key’ for Manchester City to accept his move to the Camp Nou.
It’s claimed that Barcelona always wanted the Portuguese fullback, but it was an expensive operation for them. Now with the whole scenario changing, they have a good chance of getting that done.
