Ansu Fati could be set to move to Qatar or Saudi Arabia after his loan spell at Brighton and Hove Albion failed to kickstart his career as Barcelona had hoped.

Sport cover the player today and how he appears destined for a move to the Middle East as Barcelona want to get rid of him.

The newspaper explains that Barcelona have ‘practically decided’ that they don’t want Fati in future and neither Hansi Flick nor the sporting management at the club consider him a part of their plans.

They say that the club decided as early as December that they no longer want their former rising star, and the plan is to send him elsewhere in the summer transfer window.

There had been a hope that sending him out on loan would help, which is why he ended up at Brighton in September 2023. That, though, did not prove to be a good experience for him and failed to provide the kickstart that Barcelona had been hoping it would.

That brought an end to a potential exit in January too as Fati didn’t enjoy that experience at Brighton and didn’t want to head out again.

The case has become a sensitive one for the club as Fati is a home-grown player and loved by the squad and fans. The hope is that he can use the summer to get fit and secure a move away.

Barcelona are already looking for a definitive solution but would not turn down another loan move if it is economically viable. The most important thing is to get rid of his contract, which is a big drain on the club’s resources.

That will depend on him accepting an offer to Saudi Arabia, Qatar or the Emirates as it is only these teams who would be willing to accommodate him and pay his salary. Some contacts have already been made to try and make that happen.

Things could have been different, but only if that loan spell at Brighton had worked out and revived the once highly rated forward’s career. It didn’t, and now Barcelona want rid at any cost.
