Vitor Reis has said goodbye to his teammates at Palmeiras and will undergo a medical at Manchester City in the coming days.
That’s according to GE Global, who report that the youngster will become the most expensive defender in the history of Brazilian football.
They explain that Reis attended the Palmeiras Football Academy today but did not participate in activities. Instead, the 19-year-old said goodbye to his teammates before joining Manchester City.
He is set to undergo medical examinations at the Etihad in the coming days, and will then sign his contract as a Manchester City player.
They’re finalising negotiations with Palmeiras on a deal worth €35m fixed plus bonuses. Palmeiras will earn 100% of that as they own all his rights.
They had wanted to keep Reis until the Club World Cup in June, but Manchester City had other plans. They sent their first proposal on Friday and have increased their effort since then until Palmeiras agreed to sell.
While Palmeiras president Leila Pereira had insisted there was no rush for a deal, City got it done regardless. They met with the Brazilian club’s board hours after her comments were made and struck the €35m deal.
Now Reis is set to fly to England to undergo his medical with Manchester City as they spend big this month to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad.
