Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji is ‘on the verge’ of joining Manchester City on a deal until 2027.
That’s according to Sport 1 journalist Patrick Berger, who says the defender will earn around €11m per year at the Etihad.
Akanji has been linked with a move away from Dortmund throughout this summer, with the arrival of Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Sule pushing him down the pecking order.
Dortmund have been unable to find a suitor but that has quickly changed over the last week, with Manchester City emerging as surprise buyers.
Reports in England have made it clear a move was advancing quickly and Berger backs that up, stating the Switzerland star is ‘on the verge’ of joining Manchester City.
He says the defender is set to sign a five-year deal until 2027 with Pep Guardiola’s side worth €11m per year.
Sources have also told him that the two clubs are ‘close to reaching’ a total agreement on a deal worth €18m.
Akanji remains in Dortmund at this moment in time but is ‘set to fly to the UK soon’, presumably for a medical and to sign the final documents to make him a Manchester City player.
