Former Tottenham Hotspur player Erik Edman has warned Malmo forward Pawel Cibicki he faces a tough challenge playing in the Championship if he signs for Leeds United.

Cibicki today confirmed he’s in talks with Leeds United with regards to a move before the deadline.

Speaking to Expressen, Edman was asked how he thought Cibicki would be able to adapt to the English second tier if he signs for Leeds United: “It should be kept in mind that although the Championship in Swedish eyes may be about lots of long balls, they aren’t bad footballers, and the competition is significantly stronger than the Swedish.”

Edman added: “I think Pawel Cibicki has a lot of qualities to take the next step and maybe at a higher level than Antonsson was when he left Kalmar. The prospect for him to succeed at Leeds is bigger than it was for Antonsson I think.”

Cibicki has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent days, with reports the 23 year old has been offered a four year contract to come to England.

The forward has today confirmed he’s in talks with the Championship side over a move to Elland Road, which was also backed by Malmo sporting director Daniel Andersson.

The Sweden U21 international said it would be a dream to play for a club like Leeds United, and he would entertain playing in the Championship.
