Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow has seemingly hinted he will stay at the German club in January, despite interest from Aston Villa and West Ham.

Sow had been impressing at the World Cup with Switzerland over the last few weeks, with a series of impressive performances in their midfielder before they were dumped out of the competition by Portugal yesterday.

That’s led to plenty of speculation about his future, with several sides in the Premier League thought to be interested in his signature.

Aston Villa and West Ham have been put in the mix, with a report yesterday stating that they want to ‘lure’ him to the Premier League next month.

It was made clear they would need an ‘insane sum’ to convince Frankfurt into a sale and it seems they would need to convince the player as well.

Hessenschau cover the interest in Sow today and explain how Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner ‘expressed his hope’ that the player, and the rest of the squad, would be kept together.

He also reported on a ‘text message contact’ with Sow on Wednesday in which he congratulated the player on a successful year for club and country and revealed Sow’s response.

“He replied to me: ‘Next year we will celebrate success with Eintracht.’ He explicitly wrote: ‘with Eintracht’,” he is quoted as saying.

Hessenschau say those are ‘clear words’ from Sow that he would like to stay, putting up another potential roadblock for his suitors.

The first of those is the fact the German side are only likely to agree to a sale if the fee is in line with their expectations, which are believed to be north of €30m.

The feeling is that Eintracht can ‘remain relatively relaxed’ about Sow’s future and ‘tough in the negotiations’ if they do come about.

As far as they’re concerned Sow could still ‘bring a fat sum into Frankfurt’s coffers’ in the summer after a successful and injury free second half of the season.

They don’t want to sell in January, and it seems the player doesn’t want to leave, which is bad news for the likes of Aston Villa and West Ham.
